TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team completed a weekend sweep in ECAC Hockey play as they defeated the Brown University Bears by a final score of 2-0 at Houston Field House on Saturday afternoon.
The win marks the first ECAC Hockey weekend sweep for the Engineers in six years, with the last coming on the weekend of Nov. 9 & 10, 2018 when the Engineers swept Brown a Yale at the Houston Field House.
Freshman
Aylah Cioffi got things started with a goal in the second period of play. She let a wrist shot go from the left wing circle, with assists going to
Taylor Larsen and Andrea Trnkova to make it 1-0 Engineers.
Trnkova came through with a goal of her own to seal the deal in the third period, as she capped off a five-point weekend with the tally to give RPI some breathing room. She scored on an empty net, as the Engineers took a 2-0 lead.
Graduate student goaltender
Amanda Rampado continued her strong play with the shutout victory, adding yet another to her career resume.
RPI returns to action on Friday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. when they take on the Cornell Big Red in Ithaca.
