GENEVA, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team hung tight through three periods before suffering a 15-9 Liberty League setback at #2 William Smith College this afternoon.
Ella Graff and
Megan Shay netted two goals each to pace the Engineer attack.
Gabbie Valle,
Mia Banglmaier, and
Lauren DeLeo were in the scoresheet as well with solo strikes for RPI.
DeLeo and Banglmaier were the key facilitators offensively, as DeLeo finished with two assists and Banglmaier had one helper.
A hot start by William Smith allowed the Herons to take an 8-3 lead in the break, however the Engineers would get back into the game by owning five of the six goals scored in the third period. Shay was the catalyst in the rally, as she posted three of her strikes in the third frame.
Leading 9-8 going into the fourth, the Herons outscored RPI 6-1 over the final 15 minutes to secure the victory. Natalie Daniels scored four times, including two goals in the game-sealing stretch, to help William Mary stay undefeated.
RPI will look to bounce back next Saturday at home against RIT, with the action set to start at 12:00 pm at ECAV Stadium.
