GENEVA, N.Y. - A clinching victory at No. 5 singles from
Tasmay Shah clinched the fifth and winning point for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team as they defeated the Hobart Statesmen by a final score of 5-4.
The Engineers started out the match winning two of three courts in doubles play, with
Jonathan McMillan and
Bryce Burnham taking the go-ahead point at No. 3 doubles by a final score of 8-6.
With the 2-1 lead going into singles, RPI held the slight 4-3 lead after a clutch win in three sets by
Andy Zhu at No. 2 singles gave the Engineers the edge. Shah then won at No. 5 singles by a final of 6-2, 6-2 to seal the win.
RPI returns to action this Wednesday, April 17 when they play host to Union in Liberty League action.
