ROCHESTER, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team pulled away from Rochester to earn a 13-11 Liberty League road victory this afternoon.
Five different Engineers netted two or more goals on the day, with
Audrey Silverman leading the way with four scores.
Ella Graf,
Lauren DeLeo,
Emily Speck, and
Megan Shay each found the back of the net two times, and
Mia Banglmaier struck for one goal as well to round out the RPI attack.
RPI played from behind early in this one, as Rochester jumped ahead 3-0 in the opening six minutes of the first period.
Graf got the Engineers with 2:56 left in the first, which started a run of five unanswered goals by RPI.
After Rochester scored back-to-back goals to tie the action again at 5-5, Banglmaier and DeLeo tallied scores within 50 seconds of each other to put RPI in front once again.
Trailing by two, the Yellow Jackets owned four of the next five goals to re-take the lead at 9-8 with two minutes left in the third period.
The Engineers found another equalizer before the end of the stanza, as Speck struck with 17 seconds left in the frame to tie the score for the fifth time on the day. Silverman would give RPI the lead for good with a man-up, go-ahead goal in the opening minutes of the fourth.
Silverman tallied three of her four goals in the final period to help the Engineers seal the victory.Â
DeLeo and Banglmaier registered two assists, while Graf, Speck, and
Gabbie Valle logged one helper apiece in the triumph.
Next up, RPI begins a four-game homestand with a 4:00 pm meeting with Bard on Friday at ECAV Stadium.
