Baseball Upends WIlliams in Road Victory

Engineers Five-Run Seventh Pushes Them to Win

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure an 8-4 victory over the William College Eephs on the road Wednesday night.

Four Engineers finished the day with two hits apiece, including Martin Marintchev who went 2-for-2 with a solo home run, two RBI, and two walks. Jon Primerano and Kameron Levesque also added doubles.

RPI opened with two runs in the first inning with Levesque and Julian Scarpa collecting RBI's for the 2-0 lead. Williams responded in the second inning to move things to 2-1 before Marintchev's solo blast in the third.

The Eephs added another run in the bottom of the fourth, as they moved back within one to make the score 3-2. Things stood that way until the top of the seventh inning as the Engineers pulled away.

Martinchev opened the scoring with an RBI single before Joey Saia added another run with a sacrifice fly as the Engineers grabbed their largest lead of the day at 5-2. After a Matt Chotiner RBI single, a walk from Primerano and a wild pitch capped the RPI inning and gave the Engineers an 8-2 lead.

Despite a pair of runs from Williams in the bottom of the seventh, Dutch Hamilton and Sam Stone held down the fort in the bullpen to hang on for the win.

The Engineers return to action on Friday, April 19 at 4 p.m. when they take on Skidmore in Liberty League action.
