TROY, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team began the weekend with an 8-0 victory over Skidmore today at Karl Steffen Ballpark.
Eight different Engineers recorded a hit in the shutout win, with
Aidan Hicks and
Matt Chotiner each tallying two hits apiece to lead the RPI lineup.
Charlie Lapp reached base three times, including a two-run home run in the bottom of the second that put RPI ahead 2-0.
Joey Saia followed Lapp with a two-run shot of his own in the bottom of the sixth before
Martin Marintchev deposited a solo blast as part of a four-run eighth inning.
Stephen Koval provided an RBI single and
Jon Primerano doubled in two runs as part of the big rally.Â
Koval topped the Engineers with two runs on the day, while Lapp, Marintchev, Saia, Chotiner, and
Julian Scarpa all scored runs for RPI.
Julian Fong-McAdams struck out 11 over 6.1 innings to earns the win. Fong-Adams was touched for only one Skidmore hit on the day.
RPI wraps up its three-game series against the Thoroughbreds with a doubleheader tomorrow in Saratoga Springs. First pitch of the day is set for 12:00 pm.
