Baseball Stages Ninth-Inning Comeback in Game Two to Earn Split at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team bounced back to earn a split today at Skidmore. The Engineers fell 12-2 in game one before coming from behind to win game two 9-7 in 11 innings.

Walker Abdallah and Jon Primerano each provided run-scoring hits for RPI in the top of the 11th. Abdallah singled to score Aidan Hicks before Primerano's double scored Abdallah in the go-ahead rally.

Primerano finished the day 4-for-6 at the plate, while Hicks and Joey Saia scored two runs each to lead the Engineers. Hicks and Ayush Krishnappa provided two RBI each.

The Engineers got the scoring going early in game two, with Julian Scarpa, Ayush Krishnappa, and Hicks all taking advantage of a bases loaded situation to each record RBI.

Skidmore got one back in the fourth before Hicks and Krishnappa helped RPI score twice in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 5-1.

The Thoroughbreds put up a five-spot in the seventh and another in the eighth to take a 7-5 advantage, setting up RPI's ninth-inning comeback. The Engineer's were down to their final out in the top of the ninth when an outfield error allowed RPI to plate two unearned runs to push things to extra innings.

After taking the first game of the series on Friday night, the game two victory allowed RPI to claim a victory in the three-game set after Skidmore took the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.

The Thoroughbreds limited RPI to just four hits in the first contest of the day, with Saia and Stephen Koval each driving in runs for the Engineers in the opener.

RPI next matches up with Western New England University in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm in Springfield, Mass.
