SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY- The No.2 nationally ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team defeated Liberty League rival Skidmore 21-10 this afternoon.

Luke Murphy scored a career-best seven goals to lead the RPI attack. Anthony Mazzella netted three goals, while Sean Smith, Cooper Roman, Gavin Cousineau tallied two strikes apiece.

Angelo Venuto, Cooper Manzi, Evan Whatley, Drew Teff, and Zach Neely each struck for solo goals.

Venuto distributed five assists to facilitate the Engineers offensively. Erik Ojert finished with three assists, Sean Mullen had two helpers, and Tyler Ruffini, Caleb Oswari, and Manzi each assisted on one goal each.

The Engineers registered five of the first six goals of the game, however Skidmore responded with four straight goals to cut the margin to 5-4 early in the second period.

After that, Murphy would begin an rally of six consecutive RPI scores with three goals in a 32 second span. Mazzella and Cousineau aided the scoring streak before Murphy capped the stretch with 3:21 left in the half.

Three straight goals by Skidmore to start the second half brought the RPI advantage down to 11-7, but RPI posted a 10-1 run from that moment to put things away.

The Engineers cap the regular season with a Senior Day matchup versus St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. The action is set to begin at 12:00 pm at ECAV Stadium.
