NEW PALTZ, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer earned its first victory of the season with today's 1-0 shutout over Sarah Lawrence College.
Playing their second game in as many days at the New Paltz Hawks Classic, the Engineers produced the lone goal of the afternoon on a 16th-minute corner kick.
After Olivier Szorc started the set piece with an out-swinging ball into the box, Kedy Nana flew in to head home the game-winner for the Engineers.
Nana and the rest of the RPI defense would go on to lock down the Gryphon attack in the second half, as the Engineers did not allow a Sarah Lawrence shot across the final 16 minutes of action.
RPI held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks against the Gryphons and finished the weekend with a plus-8 margin in corners taken compared to opponents.
The Engineers will return home for their home-opener versus WPI on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm inside ECAV Stadium.
