TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team scored with 3:25 remaining to earn a 3-2 victory over VTSU Castleton tonight in ECAV Stadium.
Micaela Ross tucked home a rebound in the middle of the box to provide RPI with the go-ahead strike in the closing minutes of the second half.
After a scoreless 75 minutes, the two sides combined to score four times in an eight-minute span, setting the stage for the Ross winner.
Genevieve Ricci got RPI on the board first with a strike with the left foot, which was followed by a score from
Annabelle Bachhuber that featured assists from
Anna Clark and
Sarah Sedlacek.
VTSU Castleton was able to equalize courtesy of two long-range missiles from Alexis Billings. Both of Billings' scores came in a similar fashion, with a high, lofting attempt that bent around an RPI goalkeeper positioned off their line.
Ross' goal finished off a night in which the Engineers registered 23 more shots than the visitors.  Additionally, RPI held a 14-3 advantage in attempts on goal. RPI forced Emma Ezzo to make 11 saves in net for the Spartans.
Next up, RPI will hit the road to face Drew University at 3:00 pm on Saturday in Madison, NJ.
