OSWEGO, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team fell 2-1 this afternoon at SUNY Oswego. The host Lakers scored two goals in the final 23 minutes of action, including the game-winner with 6:34 remaining to steal the win.
Sam Schmukler and Owen Schnurr worked together to get RPI on the board in the middle stages of the first half. Schmukler beat an Oswego defender along the end line before centering a ball to an open Schnurr for a one-touch strike.
The 1-0 RPI advantage held until the second half, when the Lakers successfully deposited a penalty kick in the 67th minute.
The Lakers received the go-ahead strike from Benjamin Brooks, who found himself in the right place following a deflected free kick attempt.
The Engineers had a pair of corner kick chances in the closing minutes, however a header on goal by Julio Rodriguez was handled by Kyle Rose.
Colin Such made seven saves in net for RPI.
The Engineers will hit the road again for a 4:00 pm meeting at SUNY Plattsburgh on Wednesday afternoon.
