RPI Retains Transit Trophy With 51-7 Triumph Against WPI

TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) football team earned a 51-7 victory in the 117th Transit Trophy Game against Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Six different Rensselaer Engineers recorded a touchdown in the victory, with RPI wide receiver Hayden Faraday leading the way with two scores.

Faraday caught five passes for a game-high 105 yards, and was one of two Engineers to register a touchdown of more than 50 yards, as RJ Encarnacion reeled in a 54-yard score as part of his 80-yard effort.

Kayden White and Dameon Ming both reached the end zone out the RPI backfield.  White ran for a game-leading 85 yards, including a 26-yard score in a first half that saw Rensselaer post six touchdowns. Paisley Nickelson and Kevin Hughes each caught touchdowns as well for RPI.

Quarterback Jake Kazanowsky finished 15-of-18 for 246 yards and four touchdowns, while Anthony DeMatteo completed all three of his attempts for 90 yards and one score.

Jon Connelly and Anthony D'Agostino tallied five tackles apiece to lead the RPI defense. P.J. Poknis has four takedowns as well.

Ethan Johnson had a solo sack, and Jack Schumaker and Jack Chappa split a sack. Jon Borkowski and Thomas Mulvaney broke up two passes apiece.

RPI has now captured four straight in the annual event and eight of the last 10. Overall, they improved their record against WPI to 64-48-5 overall, and 30-13-1 since the trophy game between the schools was designated in 1980.

Rensselaer will look to stay hot with a meeting at nationally-ranked Endicott next Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 pm in Beverly, Mass.
