TROY, N.Y.-
Brooke Miller of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team scored on a corner kick with three and half minutes remaining to give RPI a 3-2 comeback victory over New Paltz today in ECAV Stadium.
Fighting through traffic in the middle of the box, Miller battled to get her head on an in-swinging ball from
Haley Cole. Miller finished with two goals to led the RPI attack, while
Rachel Borra also found the back of the net of the second half to help the Engineers complete the come-from-behind win.
The Engineers faced a 1-0 deficit at halftime before Miller struck for her first goal 71 seconds after intermission. Miller one-timed a pass from
Annabelle Bachhuber on the edge of the Hawks box to get the scoring started for RPI.
The margin would remain level at 1-1 into the middle of the second half, when Abby Dongle put the Hawks back on top with an unassisted strike in the 57th minute.
New Paltz was able to maintain its one-goal advantage until the final minutes of regulation, when Borra equalized for RPI with 10 minutes remaining on a right-footed laser that found the upper corner of the Hawks net.
Sierra Skelding and Megan Wamper combined to make nine saves in net for the Engineers.
Winners of five of its last six contests, RPI next travels to Plattsburgh for a 7:00 pm non-conference meeting on Wednesday evening.
