Box Score TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's ice hockey team was upended 3-2 by Holy Cross in the 2024-25 season opener tonight in Houston Field House.
Aylah Cioffi had one goal and one assist to led the RPI offense, while Morgann Skoda also found the back of the net for the Engineers.
RPI was forced to play from behind early, as the Crusaders opening the scoring 18 seconds into the first period when Taylor Cantelon tucked one under the crossbar.
Cioffi got the Engineers on the board six minutes into the second frame, when she put home a feed from Molly Hamilton on a power play.
Skoda broke the 1-1 deadlock in the opening minutes of the third when she deposited a loose puck that was sitting in front of the Holy Cross net following a face off.
Facing their first deficit of the night, the Crusaders generated two goals in a seven minute span to propel ahead for good in the third period.
Holy Cross was able to first register a short-handed equalizer before netting the go-ahead score on a 5-on-3 opportunity with 6:28 left.
The Engineers committed eight of the 11 penalties called on the evening and had to fight off three separate 5-on-3 situations.
Reese Keating had 25 saves in net for the Rensselaer. Holy Cross registered a 49-36 shot advantage and had 10 more attempts on net than the RPI.
The two sides will wrap the weekend series tomorrow at 3:30 pm in Houston Field House.
