TROY, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team overcame a 21-point deficit to defeat Liberty League rival Skidmore 64-61 tonight in ECAV Arena.
RPI trailed 29-8 after the first 10 minutes of the game, as the Thoroughbreds hit seven of their first 10 three-point attempts to blitz the Engineers early.
After the early rally by Skidmore, RPI would respond with 22 of the next 26 points to pull within three at the break.
The Engineers continued to edge closer at the start of the half before going on a 19-5 run in the middle of the frame. The game-changing rally saw RPI make 8-of-9 shots, including all three attempts from behind the arc, to flip a four-point deficit into a double-digit lead.
Yechiel Stewart led all scorers with 18 points, while Dylan Matchett landed in double-figures as well with 10 points in the win.
PJ Scalisi and Chuck Clemons provided nine points and six points each, with Clemons also adding game-high six assists to the stat sheet.
Next up, the Engineers will welcome RIT to Troy for a 4pm tilt tomorrow in ECAV Arena.
