TROY, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team was stung 59-52 in Liberty League play by Skidmore this evening in ECAV Arena.
Siena Smith and Callie Flynn registered 14 points each for RPI, with Smith grabbing a game-leading 13 rebounds to cap a double-double effort.
The Engineers held a narrow 15-10 lead after the opening quarter, but RPI would manufacture only seven points in the second frame to allow the Thoroughbreds to take a five-point lead into the half. The two sides would trade baskets to begin the third quarter before 11 unanswered points by the visitors moved Skidmore's advantage to double-figures.
RPI managed to cut the lead to single digits with a Molly Libby three-pointer at the buzzer to end the third, however the Thoroughbreds would maintain their lead throughout the final 10 minutes thanks to 8-of-12 shooting from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
Libby finished with eight points and Julia Rowe hauled in nine rebounds for the Engineers. Flynn tallied seven boards as well for RPI.
Looking ahead, the Engineers will try to get back on track with a 2pm meeting at home versus RIT tomorrow.
