Men's Basketball Drops Liberty League Meeting at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team started and finished cold tonight at Vassar, as the host Brewers used early and late rallies to earn a tight 63-59 Liberty League result.

The Engineers were forced to play catch-up early after Vassar scored 19 of the first 26 points to begin the game. The Brewers ended the first half ahead 32-24, thanks to 5-of-10 shooting from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes.

RPI was able to chip away at their deficit after halftime, as the Engineers opened the second half on a 16-8 sprint to tie the action at 40-all with 13 minutes remaining.

The two sides would stay within one possession of each other until the final two minutes of the game, when Vassar recorded a 10-2 rally in crunch time to seal the league victory.

Dylan Matchett scored 17 and Andrew Deppe had 13 points for the Engineers. Chuck Clemons and Avery Eugster logged eight points and six rebounds apiece as well.

PJ Scalisi topped RPI with seven rebounds and three steals. Matchett also added five rebounds and Clemons tallied four assists.

RPI will flip around to face Bard tomorrow at 4:00 pm in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
