Engineers Dispatch Liberty League Rival Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team held on for a 78-70 Liberty League win at Bard this afternoon.

Four Engineers finished in double-figures, with PJ Scalisi's career-high 23 points leading the quartet. Scalisi also tallied team-bests of three assists and three steals.

Dylan Matchett tallied 19 points and five rebounds, marking the eighth time in the last nine games that he's topped 10 or more points.

Andrew Deppe and Chuck Clemons had 14 and 13 points, respectively, to round of the double-digit scoring efforts.

Pat White pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds and Avery Eugster added eight boards in the victory. Clemons hit the glass for six rebounds as well.

The Engineers connected on 12-of-23 field goals (52.2 percent) in the first 20 minutes to own a six-point lead at the break. Both RPI and Bard would struggle to make shots after halftime, as both sides were limited to just eight buckets in the second half.

Despite their struggles from the floor, the Engineers were able to create points from the free-throw line. RPI finished 25-of-33 from the stripe, including a 14-for-20 in a closing stanza that saw the Engineers lead by as much as 18.

Looking ahead, RPI will welcome Ithaca to ECAV Arena for a 7:30pm contest on Friday.
