RPI Has No Trouble Versus Ithaca

TROY, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team dispatched Ithaca 66-38 in a battle of the top-two teams in the Liberty League.

Andrew Deppe topped all players with 19 points in the win for RPI. PJ Scalisi added 12 points as well.

Chuck Clemons finished with nine points, five rebounds, eight assists, in addition to matching Dylan Matchett with three steals. Scalisi, Matchett, and Pat White co-lead the Engineers with eight boards, while Deppe and Eugster grabbed seven apiece to help RPI register a 50-32 advantage on the glass.

The Engineers claimed an early lead on to a 13-2 sprint midway through a first half that concluded with RPI ahead by 16.

RPI held Ithaca to just seven made field goals in each half, while the Engineers would hit on six three-pointers themselves in both the first and second stanza. The Bombers shot 27.5 percent as a team from the floor, which marked lowest field-percentage generated by an Engineers opponent this season.

RPI tallied a season-high 12 three-pointers in the win, with Deppe and Scalisi combining to hit 7-of-11 attempts from behind the arc. Eugster also connected on two from deep as part of an eight-point effort.

Sitting alone atop the Liberty League, the Engineers will next welcome Union to ECAV Arena for a 4pm tip-off tomorrow afternoon.
