Men’s Hockey Battles Dartmouth in Houston Field House

TROY, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team was upended 5-3 by Dartmouth tonight in Houston Field House.

Dartmouth put the first three goals on the board before Max Smolinski and Jeremie Payant scored in the back half of the second period to cut the deficit to 3-2, however the Big Green increased the margin to two goals again before the end of the frame.

Smolinski notched his second tally of the evening at 13:17 in the third, starting a frenzy of a closing stretch that included the Engineers attacking with an extra man for the final minutes before Dartmouth scored on an empty net with less than a minute remaining.

Jakob Lee, Brad McNeil, and Arvils Bergmanis registered assists on the Engineers' second period goals, and Jake Gagnon and John Beaton helped on the Smolinski strike in the third.

Noah Giesbrecht stopped 35 Dartmouth shots, which was the third-most saves the graduate goalkeeper has tallied this season.

The Engineers will next take the ice in the annual Capital District Mayor's Cup matchup with Union at MVP Arena. The non-conference tilt is scheduled for a 6pm puck drop in downtown Albany.
