TROY, NY- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team was edged in the fourth quarter by visiting Union today in ECAV Arena.
After the two sides were deadlocked at 43-all with eight minutes to play, the Garnet Chargers rallied for 13 of the next 17 points to go up by double-digits.
The Engineers made things interesting in the final moments, as RPI netted a pair of three-pointers with under 50 seconds remaining to cut the margin to just one point with 11 ticks left, however Union was able to close out the Liberty League win at the free throw line.
Ashlyn O'Neil and Siena Smith scored 11 points each, and Tyler Hormazabal contributed 10 points to the RPI offense.
Julia Rowe and Callie Flynn logged six points and seven rebounds apiece, with Rowe providing a team-best five assists as well. Hormazabal and Smith also finished with six and five rebounds each, respectively.
Looking forward, RPI will ready for a trip to Rochester to face RIT at 5:30 pm on Friday.
