Engineers Late Rally Not Enough at William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team traveled to William Smith for a Liberty League contest this afternoon.

The Herons jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as the hosts were ahead by nine at halftime before closing out the 54-48 win.

RPI faced a deficit that reached as much as 11 in the second half, but a rally in the early stages of the fourth quarter to cut the William Smith advantage down to one possession with four minutes remaining. The Herons would close the game with eight of the final 12 points to pocket the league win.

Amanda Gallagher finished with 10 points, two blocks, and two steals, and Julia Rowe logged eight points and three rebounds for the Engineers.

Siena Smith grabbed a team-leading five rebounds and Tyler Hormazabal led all players with six assists and four steals.

RPI will head home for its next three games, beginning with a 5:30pm meeting with Skidmore on Friday evening.
