Men’s Tennis Begins Liberty League Play with Sweep at Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team swept Bard College this afternoon at the Stevenson Athletic Center.

RPI secured commanding victories across all three doubles courts to claim the opening point. At the top spot, Quoc-Uy Vo and Gustave Viennet pocketed a 6–3 win over Bard's Nicholas Oh and Ivan Borshchev. The No. 2 pair of Aiden Atri and Felix Puyplat were flawless in a 6–0 shutout of Thanasis Kostikas and Blake Kendall, while Cade Collingwood and Debarshi Sen matched the feat on Court 3, blanking Ciaran Chamberlain and Peter Trimble, 6–0.

The Engineers did not drop a match in singles play, as RPI took all six courts in straight sets or match tiebreakers. Vo cruised on Court 1, defeating Kostikas 6–1, 6–0. Viennet continued his stellar day with a 6–0, 6–1 decision at the No. 3 position, and Puyplat followed suit at No. 4 with a 6–0, 6–0 win.

Atri and Collingwood were also dominant on Courts 5 and 6, winning 6–0, 6–0 and 6–0, 6–1, respectively. The only match that went the distance came on Court 2, where Sen battled back after dropping the opening set to Oh. After taking the second set 6–4, Sen edged out his opponent in the match tiebreaker, 10–7, to complete the sweep for the Engineers.

RPI returns to action this weekend when it travels to Saratoga Springs for the ITA Northeast Regional Championships. The three-day tournament begins Friday and runs through Sunday at host Skidmore.
