RPI Stymied at #14 Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team showed early energy and offensive push before #14 Northeastern broke away midway through the first period, as the Engineers fell 6–1 on Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena.

After the nationally-ranked hosts struck on an a successful early power play opportunity, the Engineers fired back to tie the game at one when Charlotte Wensley finished off a crisp passing sequence at 11:35 of the opening frame. Sabrina Beaudoin initiated the play, finding Nina Christof, who set up Wensley in stride for her first goal of the season.

Northeastern regained the lead three minutes later and added a third before the first intermission, building momentum that carried into the second period. Despite the deficit, RPI continued to battle, generating consistent pressure through Beaudoin and Georgia Bailey in the faceoff circle, where the Engineers went 22-for-47 overall.

Defensively, Kendal Davidson, Sophia Jones, and Gracyn Kackay led the effort with three blocked shots apiece, while Charlotte Wensley, Kyley Toye, Georgia Bailey, Julianna Goffredo, and Chloe Obser each contributed multiple stops to limit Northeastern's second-chance opportunities. Davidson paced the Engineers with four total shot attempts and also logged heavy minutes on both special teams units.

Goaltender Reese Keating made 20 saves through two periods before Maelee Ambrass came on in relief for the third, stopping all six shots she faced to close out the afternoon. The Engineers also killed three of four Northeastern power plays, highlighted by an extended sequence in the third period where Ambrass and the RPI penalty killers combined for four blocks.

RPI will take next weekend off before welcome St. Lawrence to Houston Field House for the first ECAC Hockey contest of the season on Friday, October 24.
