Women's Soccer Travels to Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team was held scoreless on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Ithaca College in Liberty League action at Carp Wood Field.

Ithaca broke the deadlock late in the first half, capitalizing in the 43rd minute when sophomore Ella Shorkey netted an unassisted strike to give the Bombers a 1-0 edge. The hosts doubled their advantage early in the second half, as Lily Fusco found the back of the net in the 57th minute following a setup from Jayne Bogle.

Ava Gaboury was a key factor in keeping the Engineers in the match, registering eight saves, including three in the first half and five more in the second. The sophomore netminder faced a relentless Ithaca attack that generated 22 total shots and earned 13 corner kicks.

The Engineers registered one shot attempt on the day, which came in the 79th minute off the foot of Bethany Kim and was saved by Ithaca goalkeeper Katrina Varnum.

RPI will return to the friendly confines of ECAV Stadium to host Clarkson next Saturday at 2:00 pm.
