ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming and diving team opened the 2024-25 season with a convincing 186-110 victory over RIT in Saturday's dual meet. The Engineers turned in a well-rounded performance from top to bottom, with standout showings across the pool and on the diving boards, including several first-year student-athletes earning their first collegiate victories.
The Engineers wasted no time setting the tone, capturing first place in the 200 medley relay to open the meet. The quartet of
Ellen Lorentz,
Audrey Lewis,
Elizabeth Rose, and
Vera Korff combined for a time of 1:52.34. Later in the meet, RPI closed strong with another relay win, as Lily Bar, Korff, Rose, and
Sierra Pargett claimed the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.66.
Individually,
Gwenyth Snyder swept the distance freestyle events, touching first in both the 1000 (11:24.92) and 500 (5:34.82) freestyle races.
Sierra Pargett delivered a first-place swim in the 200 freestyle (1:57.92), added a runner-up finish in the 100 free (53.92), and anchored the winning 200 free relay.
In the backstroke events, first-year
Meera Kondal was impressive in her collegiate debut, earning wins in both the 100 back (59.62) and 200 back (2:10.43). She was closely followed by
Caroline Steeves, who finished second in the 100 backstroke at 1:00.59.
The breaststroke was headlined by
Audrey Lewis, who recorded her first collegiate win with a time of 1:11.44 in the 100-yard race and added a second-place showing in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.99).
Vera Korff also made her presence felt in the sprint events, posting a winning time of 25.08 in the 50-yard freestyle.
In butterfly action,
Elizabeth Rose took the top spot in the 100 sprint with a time of 59.98, while
Kseniya Baghdasaryan captured first in the 200 fly (2:11.40) and placed second in the 100 fly (1:00.51).
Hannah Goddard also earned points with a second-place finish in the 200 fly (2:11.57), giving the Engineers a strong trio in the event.
Corinne Boyle added a second-place result in the 200 individual medley (2:20.16), rounding out RPI's depth across all strokes.
On the diving boards,
Ella Simpson recorded a pair of top-three finishes, earning second on the 1-meter board with 231.10 points and third on the 3-meter board with 239.35 points.
RPI will next host SUNY Oneonta on Saturday, October 25 at 1:00 pm.
