TROY, N.Y. – A pair of first-half goals lifted visiting St. Lawrence to a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Saturday afternoon in Liberty League action in ECAV Stadium.
St. Lawrence struck first in the 11th minute, when Kenneth Mejia Lopez sent a well-placed pass to Ryan Campbell up the left side, who finished from close range to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
RPI responded just over seven minutes later, drawing level through a penalty kick.
Christopher McKinney converted the spot attempt at 17:24 to make it 1-1 after a foul in the area led to the opportunity.
The Saints regained the lead in the 36th minute on a goal from Eric Edmonds, who came off the bench and found the back of the net to put St. Lawrence in front, 2-1. The visitors held that advantage into halftime despite an even first half in shots and fouls.
Both teams applied pressure in the second half, with the Saints generating six corner kicks and putting four shots on goal, all of which were turned away by RPI goalkeeper
Antonio Spina, who finished with six saves on the day.
RPI will next challenge Vassar on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in ECAV Stadium.
