Engineers Take Princeton to Overtime

PRINCETON, NJ – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team battled through a back-and-forth thriller this afternoon, forcing overtime with a last-second goal before falling 4–3 to Princeton at Hobey Baker Rink.

RPI wasted no time setting the tone when Charlotte Wensley buried a rebound just 1:11 into the contest, finishing a feed from Sabrina Beaudoin to give the Engineers an early 1–0 advantage. The goal was Wensley's team-leading fifth of the season of the season.

The second period mirrored the first with each side finding the net once. After Princeton took a brief 2–1 lead, Nina Christof knotted the game again at 11:58, capitalizing on a setup from Gracyn Mackay. Christof's finish was her second goal in as many games and energized the Engineers heading into the final period.

Princeton moved ahead early in the third on a power-play strike, but RPI refused to quit. With goaltender Reese Keating pulled for an extra attacker, freshman Mia Montanari delivered the tying goal with less than a second remaining, redirecting a point shot from Georgia Bailey to make it 3–3 at 19:59. The dramatic finish sent the game to overtime, where Princeton secured the winner on a power play at 3:11.

RPI's offensive core was steady throughout, with Wensley, Christof, and Montanari each lighting the lamp and Bailey and Beaudoin collecting assists. Defensively, Taryn Rathwell led all players with five blocked shots, and Kendal Davidson added four, as the Engineers held the Tigers to 12 even-strength shots over the final two periods. Keating was sharp in net, turning aside 30 saves.

Princeton's goals came from Issy Wunder, Rosie Klein, Gabby Kim, and Angelina DiGirolamo, who scored the overtime winner.

The Engineers cap their weekend road trip with an afternoon tilt at Quinnipiac.
