FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's ice hockey earned its first win of the season in commanding fashion this afternoon, shutting out Sacred Heart 4–0 on the road in Martire Family Arena.
Michaela Littlewood got the scoring started midway through the three-goal second period for the Engineers, as she finished off a sequence that began with strong puck movement from
Charlotte Wensley and
Juliette Thibault.
Just minutes later,
Taryn Rathwell doubled the advantage, cashing in off helpers from freshman
Mia Montanari and Wensley. Montanari, who was active all afternoon, then made it 3–0 before the intermission, burying her first collegiate tally with
Georgia Bailey and Thibault picking up the assists. The Engineers added one more in the third as
Alexis Brunet converted with an extra attacker, assisted by captain
Kendal Davidson and Rathwell.
Montanari finished with a goal and an assist for a team-high two points, while Wensley and Thibault each chipped in two assists to pace the attack. Davidson and Rathwell anchored the blue line with three blocked shots apiece. Goaltender
Reese Keating was flawless in net, turning away all 17 Sacred Heart attempts for her first shutout of the season.
RPI will next prepare for a 2:00 pm road meeting at Northeastern next Saturday, October 11.
