TROY, N.Y. –The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with Skidmore College this evening in ECAV Stadium.
RPI generated several quality chances throughout the match, outshooting the Thoroughbreds 7–6 in the opening half and totaling 11 shots overall.
Meadow O'Connell led the Engineers in the early going with two first-half attempts, including a shot on goal in the second minute that was turned away by Skidmore goalkeeper Avery Rogers.
Isabelle Gelzhiser and
Ava Davey each tested Rogers with shots on frame, while
Annabelle Bachhuber and
Sophia Byron narrowly missed late in each half. Gelzhiser nearly gave RPI the lead in the 47th minute with a low-driven shot to the center of the goal, but Rogers came up with another save. The Engineers' final scoring threat came in the 87th minute when Davey's attempt on frame was again stopped by Rogers.
Defensively, RPI held off a persistent Skidmore attack that fired off 16 total shots, including 10 in the second half.
Audrey Montero anchored the Engineers in goal, finishing with two saves throughout the 90 minutes. A crucial team save early in the match also kept the Thoroughbreds off the board.
The backline unit of
Greta Heldman,
Keleigh Nihart,
Sophia Byron, and
Kaz Vezzuto played the full 90 minutes to help the Engineers register their seventh clean sheet of the year.
RPI next travels to Ithaca for a 2:00 pm tilt on Saturday.
