TROY, NY — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming & diving team delivered a dominant all-around performance to hand reigning two-time Liberty League champion Ithaca College a 164-136 defeat this afternoon Robison Pool.
The Engineers captured first place in nine individual events and one relay while sweeping both boards in diving to help the Engineers secure the upset victory.
Sierra Pargett led the charge for RPI with three individual event wins. She touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:56.77), 50 freestyle (24.54), and 100 freestyle (53.60), and closed out the meet with a strong anchor leg on the victorious 400 freestyle relay team (3:36.84), joining Vera Korff, Theresa Funderburk, and Elizabeth Rose.
Rose also had a standout day, winning the 100 butterfly in 58.95 seconds, swimming the third leg of the winning 400 free relay, and helping the Engineers place second in the 200 medley relay alongside Korff, Ellen Lorentz, and Audrey Lewis.
First-year swimmer Meera Kondal swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 (59.69) and 200 (2:09.85) in convincing fashion. Fellow rookie Kseniya Baghdasaryan posted a strong showing in the 200 butterfly with a first-place finish in 2:11.19, while Gwenyth Snyder captured the 1000 freestyle (11:10.24) and later placed second in the 500 free and third in the 200 IM.
Ella Simpson continued her excellence on the diving boards, sweeping both the 1-meter (248.70) and 3-meter (247.65) events to give the Engineers valuable points off the platform.
RPI will take its 3-0 dual meet record into a road meeting at Vassar next Saturday.
