Engineers Stay Perfect in Dual Meets with Win at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming & diving team earned a convincing 193–104 road victory over Vassar College this afternoon.

Sierra Pargett anchored the Engineers' dominance in freestyle events, claiming victory in the 100-yard free with a time of 54.13 seconds and swimming the anchor leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay. She narrowly missed a second individual title in the 200 free, touching in 1:57.37, just two-hundredths of a second behind the race winner.

Meera Kondal swept both backstroke events, finishing first in the 100 back (59.79) and 200 back (2:11.23), while Vera Korff posted a pair of individual wins and contributed to the victorious 400 free relay.

Korff touched first in the 50 freestyle (24.82) and 100 butterfly (59.56), and joined Pargett, Elizabeth Rose, and Theresa Funderburk to close out the meet with a winning time of 3:40.22 in the 400 free relay.

In distance events, Gwenyth Snyder led the way with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:17.58) and the 200 IM (2:18.22), while placing second in the 500 free (5:26.82). Teammate Ellie Tandlmayer earned runner-up in the 1000 with a strong 11:19.68 showing.

Diver Ella Simpson was once again stellar on both boards, claiming the 1-meter title with 239.63 points and the 3-meter with 234.45 points.

Other notable second-place finishes included Elizabeth Rose in the 100 butterfly (59.58), just .02 behind first place; Katherine Schloth in the 200 back (2:13.43) and 200 IM (2:22.05), Hannah Goddard in the 200 fly (2:13.72), Ellen Lorentz in the 100 back (1:00.88), and Audrey Lewis in both the 100 breast (1:11.83) and 200 breast (2:37.95). RPI's 200 medley relay team of Lorentz, Lewis, Rose, and Korff also earned a second-place finish in 1:52.46.
