HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team clawed back to level in the second period but fell 2–1 at Colgate tonight.
Rainers Rullers provided the Engineers' tally on the power play, while freshman goaltender
Nate Krawchuk turned away 28 shots to keep RPI within one throughout.
Colgate opened the scoring late in the first (16:14), but RPI answered on special teams in the middle frame when Rullers hammered home a man-advantage goal at 13:35 off feeds from
Alfred Lindberg and
Kazimier Sobieski to make it 1–1.
The Raiders reclaimed the lead 2:53 into the third, and despite an extended five-minute major power play shortly thereafter, the Engineers couldn't find the equalizer.
Krawchuk finished with 28 saves, including 15 in the first two periods in a strong road effort, and the penalty kill was perfect at 5-for-5.
RPI closes the weekend trip tomorrow at 7:00 pm at Cornell.
