ITHACA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team fell 6–1 to #17 Cornell tonight at Lynah Rink.
Matthew Buckley provided the Engineers' tally, finishing at 16:10 of the opening frame off a feed from
Tyler Wallace to make it 2–1 before the Big Red pulled away.
Cornell opened with two even-strength goals at in the first seven minutes. Buckley answered with his second of the season, but the hosts restored a two-goal cushion 1:00 into the second and added a power-play marker late int he stanza. The Big Red tacked on two more in the third, including a short-handed empty-netter in the final seconds.
RPI generated 24 shots and earned three power plays, while the penalty kill went 3-for-4 on the night. Goaltender
Nate Krawchuk finished with 22 saves.
RPI next travels to Niagara for a pair of non-conference games next Friday and Saturday.
