Davidson Nets Two Versus #12 Colgate

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team battled evenly through much of the night against #12 Colgate University, receiving both goals from senior defenseman Kendal Davidson, but the Raiders used a second-period surge to pull away for a 5–2 decision tonight at Houston Field House.

RPI struck first at 14:56 of the opening period when Davidson scored on the power play, wiring a shot through traffic from the high slot off assists from Naomi Forand and Mia Montanari

The Raiders answered early in the second period and took a brief lead on a power-play conversion, but Davidson responded once again for RPI midway through the frame.

At 12:59, Davidson jumped into the play and beat the Colgate goaltender cleanly to the low left corner on an even-strength strike to tie the contest 2–2, assisted by Taryn Rathwell. The sequence capped an energetic stretch in which RPI outshot the visitors 8–4 and generated several high-danger chances, including a near tip-in from Aylah Cioffi moments earlier.

The Raiders regained the lead just 23 seconds later on a quick transition play, then added two more goals in the third to seal the result. Reese Keating stopped 39 shots, including 16 in the second period, to keep the Engineers within striking distance.

Colgate's goals came from five different skaters, including Ava Wood, Emma Gervais Beauchamp, and Emma Pais, while Farah Walker made 12 saves in goal for the visitors.

The Engineers will continue the home weekend against #4 Cornell tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
