Engineers Late Rally Not Enough Versus St. Lawrence

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team mounted a furious late comeback with a pair of goals in the final 67 seconds, but ultimately fell 4–3 to St. Lawrence in ECAC Hockey play tonight inside Houston Field House. Tyler Wallace, Dovar Tinling, and Gustavs Ozolins found the net for the Engineers, who outshot the Saints 19–13 in the third period and generated repeated high-danger looks in the closing minutes.

St. Lawrence struck early at 2:09 of the first period, but RPI answered midway through the frame when Tinling buried an even-strength chance at 11:33. The forward found space in the high slot and finished off a setup from Rainers Rullers and Ozolins, pulling the Engineers level after sustained offensive zone pressure.

Following a scoreless second period in which Nate Krawchuk turned aside all 13 shots he faced, the Saints scored twice in a 49-second span late in the third to build a 3–1 cushion. With the extra attacker on and the Engineers surging, Ozolins blasted home a feed from Ethan Bono and Gunnar VanDamme at 18:53 to cut the deficit to one.

RPI continued to press, winning offensive-zone draws and generating traffic around the crease. The momentum paid off again 46 seconds later as Wallace converted with six attackers to make it 4–3 at 19:39. The Engineers pushed for the equalizer in the final seconds, including a last-second look from Wilson that was turned aside as time expired.

Krawchuk finished with 29 saves, including several key stops through traffic to keep the game within reach.

RPI returns to action tomorrow afternoon, hosting Clarkson at 4:00 pm.
