Men's Hockey Bests Clarkson 5-1

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team put together its most complete effort of the young season on Friday night, rolling to a 5–1 victory over Clarkson University in ECAC Hockey play today at Houston Field House. Filip Sitar led the Engineers with two goals and an assist, while goaltender Bruno Bruveris anchored a sharp all-around performance in front of 2,269 fans.

RPI struck first late in the opening period when Dovar Tinling buried a centering feed from Ethan Bono and Alfred Lindberg at 17:16. The goal gave the Engineers a deserved 1–0 lead after a frame in which they blocked five shots and out-chanced the Golden Knights in transition.

The Engineers doubled their advantage late in the second. Rainers Rullers found a spot in the slot and lifted it over the Clarkson netminder for his first of the season at 18:16, with Luciano Wilson and Bono collecting the assists.

RPI extended the margin early in the third when defenseman Trevor Russell converted off a cutting feed from Sitar and Thomas Klassek to make it 3–0 at 3:09. Clarkson briefly cut into the deficit at 8:00, but the Engineers' special teams sealed the night in emphatic fashion.

At 13:45, Sitar buried a one-timer on the power play from Wilson and Klassek to restore the three-goal lead, then added his second of the night four minutes later, this time short-handed into an empty net off a setup from Jimmy Goffredo, to cap the 5–1 victory.

Sitar finished with a team-high three points, while Bono and Wilson each recorded two assists. Klassek notched a pair of helpers from the blue line, and five different Engineers found the scoresheet.

Bruveris was steady in net, stopping 27 of 28 shots for his first win of the season, including 10 saves in the opening period and a string of penalty-kill stops in the third.

RPI will look to carry the momentum into a home Friday evening non-conference tilt against New Hampshire. Game time is set for a 7:00 pm in Houston Field House.
