SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team was dealt a 7–4 road defeat by Union College. with four different Engineers finding the back of the net for RPI.
Union jumped out to a quick lead with three goals in the opening six minutes. The Engineers found their spark late in the first period when
Georgia Bailey capitalizing on setup from
Kendal Davidson and
Sophia Jones. to cut the deficit to 3–1 before the hosts added two late goals to make it 5–1 after one.
RPI dominated special teams play, striking again just over two minutes into the second when
Aylah Cioffi finished off a net-front chance for her first goal of the season. Bailey picked up the assist for her second point of the night.
Moments later,
Juliana Goffredo kept the Engineers rolling, scoring at 6:44 off a feed from
Kyley Toye to make it a two-goal game. RPI continued its surge on the power play late in the period as
Gracyn Mackay hammered one home at 19:24, assisted by
Chloe Obser and
Sabrina Beaudoin, bringing the Engineers within one heading into the third before Union pocketed two insurance goals to put things away in the final frame.
RPI next travels to Robert Morris for a pair of contests next weekended in Pittsburgh.
