CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming team delivered a strong all-around performance at the prestigious MIT Invitational this weekend, placing fifth out of nine teams over three days of action inside the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool.
The Engineers opened competition on Friday with a distance highlight as
Ellie Tandlmayer raced to a ninth-place finish in the 1650 freestyle, posting a time of 17:57.52 to set the early tone for the squad.
Saturday saw RPI build momentum with a series of relay and individual top finishes. In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of
Vera Korff,
Elizabeth Rose,
Theresa Funderburk, and
Sierra Pargett touched in 1:37.09 to take eighth place. Pargett then returned to the pool with a strong performance in the 200 freestyle, where she placed seventh overall in 1:55.65. Korff added to the Engineers' sprnt results by finishing sixth in the 50 freestyle at 24.10 seconds, rounding out a strong showing for the day.
On Sunday, the Engineers closed out the meet with another top-10 relay effort and individual swim. Pargett again led the way, earning ninth place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.12 seconds. In the 400 freestyle relay, the same quartet from Saturday's sprint relay, Pargett, Funderburk, Rose, and Korff, combined once again to secure a ninth-place finish in 3:35.60 to cap the meet.
