Engineers Dealt 4-3 Setback at Brown

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's ice hockey team was dealt a one-goal defeat at Yale this afternoon. After the first 40 minutes ended with the two teams locked at 3-3, the Bulldogs received the game-winner from Jade Iginila at 5:14 in the third to earn the 4-3 ECAC victory.

The two sides traded scores all day until the go-ahead tally from Iginla, as the Engineers were able to manufacture an answer to each of the Yale scores through the opening two periods.

Aylah Cioffi logged two goals from RPI in the setback, starting with the Engineers' opening score at 7:03 in the first to even the score at 1-1.

Brown would break the deadlock again five minutes into second before Cioffi found the back of the net midway through the period, but the hosts would answer with a power-play tally less than three minutes later to re-establish their one goal margin.

RPI would level the action once more before the end of the second, with Morgann Skoda depositing a goal with 3:15 left in the frame to send the conference rivals to the third tied at 3-3.

The Engineers had opportunities after Brown re-took the lead, however RPI had four shots saved and eight more blocked down the stretch by the Brown defense.

Nyah Philip and Georgia Bailey were each credited with the help on Cioffi's first goal, while Bailey, Sophia Jones, Andrea Trnkova, and Natalie Tulchinsky each recorded assists for RPI in the second period.

Next up, the Engineers return to Houston Field House for a the first time in three weeks to face Cornell at 6:00 pm on Friday.
