Baseball Plays First Games of Spring in Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, DC - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team opened the 2025 season with a pair of contests at Catholic University today in Washington, DC.

The Engineers dropped the opener 11-3 before getting stung in the bottom in the ninth of game two.

RPI was trailing 1-0 in game two before the Engineers rallied for four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Catholic would answer with four in its half of the seventh to cut the margin to one, setting up the walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth.

RPI received production from the top of its lineup in game two, as Jon Primerano, Ian Oehlschlaeger, Aidan Hicks, and Julian Scarpa all logged one hit each for the Engineers. Hicks and Scarpa notched one RBI apiece as well.

Oehlschlaeger scored a team-high two runs, while Primerano and Walker Abdallah added one run each.

Ryan Wade scattered five hits across 6.0 innings in the finale. Wade struck out five and surrendered only one earned run.

Michael Lebenson was the offensive catalyst for the Engineers in game one. The third basemen went 3-for-4 and scored as part of Oehlschlaeger's two-run home run in sixth.

Kameron Levesque also drove in Scarpa with an RBI triple in the seventh. Scarpa and Primerano each had one hit as well in the opener.

The Engineers will stay around the nation's capital for a 12:00 pm meeting tomorrow at St. Mary's College of Maryland.
