TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team outlasted St. Lawrence for an 8-4 victory this afternoon in ECAV Stadium.
Quinn Wollard and Ava Gilardone deposited two goals apiece, while Kira Abdelsayed, Lauren DeLeo, Lisa Boehmer, and Ella Graff all netted one tally each to help the Engineers earn the win in their Liberty League opener.
Wollard accounted for all the scoring in the first half, as her two first-period goals, including the second coming in a woman-down situation with 12 seconds left in the first, gave RPI a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Saints scored the first two goals of the second half to the tie the action at 2-2, however the Engineers owned six of the next seven scores to manufacture a comfortable fourth-quarter cushion.
Audrey Silverman and Abdelsayed contributed assists on Wollard's first-period goals. DeLeo added an assist on Graff's tally in the fourth quarter. She also paced the Engineers with two caused turnovers and seven draw controls.
Jenny Canfield turned away 10 shots protecting the RPI net. Canfield was the team-leader with three ground balls as well.
RPI will next take the field at home on Friday afternoon against Rochester.
