RPI Explodes for 18 Runs in Liberty league Debut at Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team exploded for 18 runs in its Liberty league opener today at Bard.

Jon Primerano and Michael Lebenson reached base four times apiece in the win. Primerano walked four times, while Lebenson joined Ian Oehlschlaeger and Ayush Krishnappa with two hits each.

Krishnappa and Julian Scarpa both drove in three runs, and Oehlschlaeger and Lebenson logged two RBI apiece. Primerano and Kameron Levesque led the Engineers three runs each. Aidan Hicks, Oehlschlaeger, and Jack Mullins all touched home two times as well.

The Engineers scored 15 runs in their first three trips to the plate, with a nine-run third-inning highlighting the offense.

Krishnappa singled home Primerano and Oehlschlaeger stole home as part of a two-run top of the first. Hicks and Krishnappa provided RBI singles to increase the lead to 6-1 in the second.

The big third inning saw Primerano worked a bases-loaded walk, Krishnappa plate Hicks with a single, and Scarpa smash a bases-loaded triple that brought in Oehlschlaeger, Krishnappa, and Levesque.

RPI tacked on three more in the sixth thanks to a bases-loaded free pass to Alex Coombes and a two-run single up the middle by Lebenson.

The Engineers will cap the weekend series against the Raptors with a doubleheader tomorrow in Troy. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm in Karl Steffen Ballpark.
