Softball Wins Twice Versus Hartford

TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team notched a pair of victories against Hartford today on Doris Robison Field. RPI logged a 1-0 victory in the opener before taking a 4-1 win the second contest of the afternoon.

Ava Markert got the win in the circle following seven shutout innings in the first game of the day.

RPI's lone run of the opener came on an infield single by Sarah Decker that scored Sydney Speanburg. Speanburg and Addison Shaffer had two hits each, while Evan McDowell and Callista Adorno matched Decker with one hit apiece to start the day.

Decker and Speanburg combined for the Engineers' first run of game two, with Decker single bringing through the right side plated Speanburg in the bottom of the first.

RPI took advantage of a second-inning bases-loaded situation with a run-scoring walk by McDowell and a single by Adorno that brought around Speanburg and Ryleigh Falvey.

Decker and Caroline Peel were each 2-for-3, while Speanburg, Adorno, Falvey, and Olivia Termi provided one hit apiece in game two.

Gaby Heim struck out five batters to claim a complete game victory in the finale.

The Engineers will next face Oneonta for a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader on Robison Field.
