Engineers Split Day Three at The Spring Games

WINTER HAVEN, FL - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team split its two contests this morning at The Spring Games.

RPI defeated Adrian College 2-0 before ending the day with a 7-0 setback versus Moravian.

Ava Markert retired the first 20 batters in the opener against Adrian, with a two-out, seventh inning hit by the Bulldogs the only blemish against Markert on the day, who struck out seven batters in the win.

A run-scoring groundout by Gaby Heim gave RPI a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second. Heim brought home Sarah Decker on a sharply hit ball to the right side of the infield.

Olivia Termi doubled the lead when she singled home Callista Adorno in the sixth inning.

Caroline Peel and Lauren Cosselman tallied a hit as well in the game one triumph.

The Engineers were limited to just two hits in the second game of the day, which saw Moravian break open a pitchers dual with six runs across the fifth and sixth innings.

Heim and Adorno accounted for the RPI offense in game two.

RPI is slated to next face North Central College and Simmons University back at the DiamondPlex tomorrow.
