Engineers Post Five-Sun Seventh Inning to Defeat Millsaps

JACKSON, MS - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team pulled away from Millsaps College to earn a 11-6 win today.

RPI used a five-run rally in the top of the seventh to break open 3-3 tie. The Engineers batted 11 times in the frame, with Jack Mullins, Aidan Hicks, Jon Primerano, and Ian Oehlschlaeger all contributed RBI in the big inning.

Oehlschlaeger reached base in all six plate appearances, as the freshman was 3-for-3 with a home run, three walks, and five runs batted in.

Aidan Hicks and Julian Scarpa each had two hits as well. Hicks added two RBI and scored three runs, while Scarpa drove in a run. Primerano finished with two RBI as well.

Scarpa brought in Hicks with a first inning single, followed by run-scoring at bats by Primerano and Oehlschlaeger in the second.

Millsaps chipped away at the margin with solo runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings, setting up the game-changer sprint by RPI.

Hicks and Oehlschlaeger added to the lead in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Hicks plated Walker Abdallah with a sacrifice fly in the eighth and Oehlschlaeger blasted his two-run homer in the final stanza.

Charlie Lapp scored two times and Tucker Brown, Michael Lebenson, and Mullins each crossed home plate one time for the Engineers.

Rylan Wade earned the win after limiting Millsaps to just one earned run in 4.0 innings of relief. Wade struck out four.

RPI will head back north to ready for a Sunday doubleheader at home against Bates College, with first pitch set for 12:00 pm on Steffen Field.
