TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team won 9-7 and 10-7 against Bates College this afternoon on Steffen Field.
Ian Oehlschlaeger was 3-for-4 with an RBI in game one, while Aidan Hicks, Julian Scarpa, and Jack Mullins each produced two hits and at least one run driven in.
RPI trailed 6-2 going into the bottom of the the third of the opener but scored the next seven runs to propel ahead to the win.
Mullins started the Engineer scoring a two-run, bases-loaded single in the second inning that scored Scarpa and Michael Lebenson.
RPI got two more on the board in third, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Matt Chotiner that plated Jon Primerano, followed by a triple by Kameron Levesque that brought home Oehlschlaeger and Lebenson.
A three-bagger by Oehlschlaeger allowed Hicks to score in the fourth, with Scarpa coming through with a single to score Oehlschlaeger in the next at-bat.
Hicks and Primerano capped the scoring with RBI in the seventh. Hicks tripled Robbie Reddington and later scored on a single from Primerano in the frame.
Game two would see the Engineers do all their scoring early, as RPI recorded all 10 of its runs in the first three frames of the seven-inning finale.
RPI produced five runs in the bottom of the third thanks to a bases-loaded RBI from Ayush Krishnappa, Levesque, Jake Contois, Charlie Lapp, and Mullins.
Lapp would help increase in the advantage with a two-run single in the second, while Scarpa and Lebenson accounted for the RBI in the third.Â
Lapp finished with a team-high three RBI and Hicks, Krishnappa, Lebenson, and Levesque tallied two runs each to help RPI finish the afternoon sweep.
RPI is set to next host Williams in a single non-conference game at 3:30 pm on Wednesday afternoon.
