Engineers Grab Two League Wins from Hobart

TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team notched a pair of Liberty League wins at home against Hobart today.

The Engineers outscored the Statesmen 11-10 to start the day. RPI claimed game two by an 10-0 margin in eight innings.

Julian Scarpa and Ian Oehlschlaeger each drove in three runs to power the Engineers to the game one win.

Scarpa broke a 4-4 tie with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. Oehlschlaeger had a run-scoring single in the second, an RBI groundout in the sixth, and sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Michael Lebenson and Ayush Krishnappa each provided RPI with a run thanks to sac flies and Matt Chotiner earned an RBI with a bases-loaded walk. Jack Mullins also notched an RBI on an early single.

Scarpa, Krishnappa, Aidan Hicks, and Charlie Lapp scored two times each in the game one win.

RPI lit up the scoreboard for eight runs in the first two innings of game two. Kameron Levesque and Lebenson singled in first-inning runs before Hicks and Scarpa gave the Engineers five runs with long balls in the bottom of the second.

Hicks' bases-loaded double in the eighth plated the final two RPI runs, giving the outfield a four-RBI effort in the finale.

Hicks, Oehlschlaeger, and Krishnappa all registered two hits and two runs and Robbie Reddington touched home two of the three times he reached base in game two.

Mike Nelson earned the win in the closing game after growing 7.0 shutout innings for the Engineers.

RPI will look ahead to a weekend conference series against Vassar.  The three-game set starts on Friday afternoon at Karl Steffen Ballpark before heading to Poughkeepsie on Saturday.
