Softball Stung Twice at League-Leading Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team was edged twice today at Liberty League-leading Rochester. The Yellowjackets earned the both wins by one run, as the hosts took both contests by 5-4 and 6-4 margins.

Sarah Decker had two hits and Olivia Termi drove in two RBI in game one.

The Engineers trailed 2-0 early in game one when a three-run third inning gave RPI its first lead of the day. A two-run double by Termi highlighted the inning, as Sydney Speanburg, Addison Shaffer, and Decker all came around to score.

Callista Adorno extended the RPI advantage to 4-2 with an RBI single in the fifth that plated Speanburg, however Rochester would receive a go-ahead three-run home run by Riley Laygo in the bottom of the fifth that gave the Yellow Jackets the narrow win.

Laygo accounted for two of the four home runs tallied by Rochester in the finale. Laygo blasted a two-run shot in the first before going deep again in the third.

The Laygo homers put RPI in an early 3-1 hole, but the Engineers would able to re-establish another advantage in the middle innings courtesy of an RBI single by Decker in the fourth and a two-run double by Adorno in the fifth.

Rochester stole game two with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jenna Gorecki and Julianna Lyons left the yard as part of the game-winning rally.

The Engineers will stay out west to face RIT in a pair of league games tomorrow afternoon.
