Softball Regains Footing with Two Wins at RIT

ROCHESTER, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team got back on track with two wins today at RIT.

The Engineers did all their scoring in two innings of the 9-0 game one win, as RPI scored five runs in the third and four runs in the sixth.

Callista Adorno smashed a three-run home run as part of the third-inning rally. Gaby Heim also knocked an RBI single and Ryleigh Falvey produced a run with a bases-loaded walk in the frame. Falvey and Lauren Cosselman both had run-scoring singles as well in the sixth.

Eight of the nine Engineers scored a run in the opener, with Sarah Decker coming around twice to lead the team. Evann McDowell, Addison Shaffer, Adorno, Heim, and Cosselman all finished with one hit and one run.

Ava Markert earned the game one win in the circle after allowing just one base runner in 5.0 innings. She struck out six batters.

RPI utilized another big third inning in its 8-4 win in the finale. Adorno lifted a two-run homer out to center, Sarah Decker laced an RBI double, and McDowell produced a run on a groundout in the four-run stanza.

Following a Falvey RBI that gave the Engineers a 5-2 lead in the fourth, RIT tightened the margin to just one run after plating two in the bottom half of the inning. RPI would tack on an insurance run in each of the sixth and seventh to push the advantage back to four.

The Engineers will take the week off before hosting Clarkson in a senior day doubleheader next Saturday, April 26.
